The Great Plains Review Staff members have various assignments within the journal.
Fiction editors are required to read over each fiction piece and check for grammar, spelling, stylistic choices and any errors that may deem a selection unpublishable or in need of a rewrite in the case of quality prose that contains minor errors.
The task of the nonfiction editors is virtually identical to that of the fiction editors, however; it focuses on non-fiction pieces, so editors also look for any obvious hints that a story is fiction or contains material that requires citations.
Poetry editors are required to sort through each poetry submission as well as song-lyric pieces and search for any overtly negative content, any awkward line breaks and any other common errors that need correction before being accepted into the journal for publication.
The job of the layout editor is to collect each accepted piece and sort them into their place within the journal. He or she will also discuss deadlines with other editors and coordinate with editors to design the cover artwork. It is their job to ensure the quality of the final product before sending the journal to be printed.
Unlike editors of prose, it is the job of the art editors not to look for corrections but for quality photography and artwork. They carefully select pieces that closely match the journal’s theme as well as other works of art and photography. It is also their duty to work as liaisons to the art department to design and create posters and help with marketing.
Much like the art editors, the media and liaison editor helps with publicity. He or she is in charge of contacting students and running social media accounts, and also acting as a liaison to professors, the student leadership and marketing departments.
