THEME OF 2018 ISSUE

"Planted"

The theme of the 2018 issue is "Planted".

We chose this theme because it symbolizes the community that surrounds us. We all came from different backgrounds, but we (as a student body) reside on the Sterling College campus all school year.

From here, our roots and branches will expand, allowing us to keep our hearts where we grew up and maintained relationships, yet enabling a sense of adventure and intrigue for what is in store for each member of our community.

This year's issue will collect poetry, art, prose, and photography that embody this idea along with general submissions.

Where Have We Been Planted?

Students all around Sterling College, along with other members of our Great Plains community come from all around the globe.

Past writers, editors and other people whose work has been accepted to this journal within the last four years have come from such amazing places as:

  • The United States of America

This includes California, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and (of course) Kansas.

  • Peru

  • South Africa

  • Australia

  • East Malaysia

Psalm 1:3

He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.

New American Standard Bible. Lockman Foundation, 1977.

Significance

Sterling College proudly clings to the values and principles of the Christian faith.

As a journal which represents the ideals held by students of the college, it is important that we set an example for those who will read our work.

We at the Great Plains Review strive for content that not only meets the standards set out by the college, but content that also goes above and beyond these expectations and fosters community, fellowship and neighborhood pride.
